Living in a house along the Columbia River in Portland, OR with my life partner David and our four cats. This is my journal of the rollercoaster ride that is our lives, observations of things I find interesting and food, food and more food.

Garden Planning
It's that time of year. David and I have been discussing our gardening options. We have the perfect place for a veggie garden, but the soil has not been cultivated and we fear that using a tiller is going to be back breaking work. So, instead we are going with the unconventional. I found a web site that features straw bail gardening. And read a blog about companion gardening. These are two things that we have never tried. I know, growing up, my grandparents always planted certain veggies next to other veggies and their harvest was always outstanding. After having read about companion gardening I realize that this is what they were doing. The straw bail gardening, however, is something totally new. But we have limited space in our yard, we don't own the property and, so having the option of planting our garden in more than one place in the yard without having to do any permanent changes to the yard itself seems to be the best option. I'm really looking forward to this and I'm not the outdoor, gardening type. The outside goings on are usually David's territory.
