Joe Hill

I had no idea that Stephen King's son had become a published author until I received this as a Kindle Daily Deal the other day:

Throttle (Kindle Single)

This book didn't really interest me.  First of all, it has Stephen King as one of the authors.  Now, I know there are tons of Stephen King die hard fans out there.  Hell, I used to be one myself.  But, he just got a little tiresome after a while.  Basically the same characters, settings, etc.  I mean, how can a single town suffer so much?  However, I do have to say 'Cell' was a very original story from Stephen and I enjoyed it immensely.  The other reason it didn't interest me is because it's just another version of a mysterious driver chasing people down in the middle of nowhere.  Was over that after the movie 'Duel' with Dennis Weaver.  Well produced for a college piece done by a very young Steven Spielberg.  But, really, does it need re-hashed?  I think not.  However, interested in what Stephen's son had to say, I bought this:

The Black Phone

I don't understand the cover illustration. It doesn't fit in with the story whatsoever.  But, that aside, it is a pretty good telling of a pedophile and how he comes to his end.  Interesting concept of the use of an old telephone that isn't even connected, but still can receive calls.  Sadly, more of the children would have survived if at least one earlier victim were to have been allowed to live long enough to answer the phone.  The only part of the synopsis that I didn't understand was the description of the blood covered walls.  Maybe I just missed it.  Anyway, I enjoyed the story.  Each story in '20th Century Ghosts' sell individually for $0.99, but since the entire collection of 15 stories is $9.99, I though it a better deal.  Looking forward to reading the rest of his short stories.  If they hold up as well as this one then I will consider buying one of his novels and see if he has the stamina to go the distance.  I think I will will be pleasantly surprised.
