Kate Mann

I just put her site on my list.  We met Kate 5 years ago.  We were looking for somewhere to go that had live music.  I stumbled upon her and saw that she was playing at Mock Crest Tavern.  I pulled up her site.  She had just released 'Devil's Rope.'  I clicked on the song 'Cowboys Are My Weakness' and instantly fell in love.  We went to see her and she was fantastic.  She was a one-woman show at the time.  It was just before my 40th birthday and so we asked if she would play at my party.  She agreed.  She tried to be all professional and stuff by asking how many sets, how long the sets should be, blah, blah, blah.  We told her that it was a party and she was as much of a guest as a performer.  We told her that we had no requirements.  If she felt like playing, then play.  If not, then don't.  We told to just come and enjoy some good food and meet some good people.  It was one of the best birthday parties I ever had.  We became fast friends.  We would go see her every chance we'd get and also have her over for social gatherings.  She is a wonderful, beautiful person whom I am proud to call a friend.  Sadly, she moved to the mountains outside of Taos, NM.  Well, sadly for us, anyway.  She is living her dream of building a straw house in the hills above Taos. She still plays, but it is quite a drive for us to go see her.  We are planning on stopping by her and her partner's place on our way to Austin in June.  Can't wait to see her again and play catch up.  Her and her partner have a blog called Juniper Journeys.  The link is in my blog list.  It their story of moving to Taos from the beginning of the journey to present.  It is quite a remarkable journey and one I have to say I don't think I would be brave enough to undertake.  Kudos to them and having the courage to live a dream.
