Our Veggie Garden

We arranged our straw bales last weekend.  They got a good soaking from all of the rain that we got after having them put out.  Now we are working on getting the fertilizer in them so that they can start to compost.  We have three more days of fertilizing, then we have to wait and water while they heat up.  Once they cool back down we will be able to plant our crops.  This should be by the weekend following this one.  We are going out Saturday to buy our starts and seeds.  We are planting green beans, Roma tomatoes, potatoes, Brussels sprouts, English cucumbers, onions, peppers and garlic.  I know it doesn't look like the bales will hold all of it, but that's why we are doing companion gardening.  This is new for us and I will keep you posted on how it progresses.  Oh, the straw spread on the ground is for weed control and also to have it decompose and nourish the soil beneath.  Plus it will give the tree frogs another cool and moist place to hang out this summer.
